Prescott Valley is marking its 40th year as a town with the theme, “Prescott Valley Oz.”
Community leaders, led by the Prescott Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Town Council, have planned events and activities for throughout coming months.
For example, Thursday, May 10 through Sunday, May 13, the downtown Entertainment District will be buzzing with the following:
Sun Valley Rides carnival will open Thursday evening and run through Sunday. Early purchase of “all you can ride” tickets are available through the Prescott Valley Chamber of Commerce.
On Friday evening, a Fiesta del Pubelo is scheduled with music by Banda Llegadora, dancing, food and plenty of beverages. That evening’s entertainment is sponsored by Azteca Market.
A 9 a.m. parade will kick off Saturday events with the theme “Wizard of Oz.” The parade starts along Florentine Road beginning at Yavapai street and finishes at the Prescott Valley Event Center. The Prescott Valley Early Bird Lions Club is the parade sponsor.
Also that morning, the Humboldt Education Foundation will sponsor a Bear Dash 5K Run.
That afternoon at the carnival, special activities will include a Wild Wing Eating Contest hosted by Buffalo Wild Wings.
Saturday evening will feature an outdoor dinner hosted by the Chamber of Commerce featuring locally grown produce and beef and a beer garden. Following dinner is dancing to live music.
On Sunday, the carnival will open at noon and run through 9 p.m.
Town Council member Jodi Rooney is serving as chairperson for the 40th anniversary celebration with Vice Mayor Lora Lee Nye as co-chair.
“We’ve planned events all the way through October, but our pinnacle weekend will be Aug. 25-26, the month the town was incorporated,” said Rooney. “We’re reaching back in time and will recreate some events that will bring back nostalgia for those who have been here a while.”
“It truly has been a pleasure to be a part of the maturation of this community as it has grown into a dynamic economic engine for Central and Northern Arizona,” said Town Manager Larry Tarkowski. “A celebration is in order to mark the vision and execution of the Fains and the others who founded this great town. The future of Prescott Valley is very bright and full of dreams and aspirations for those who call ‘Prescott Valley Oz’ home.” QCBN
