Yavapai County Contractors Association, renamed in 1970, had its beginnings as the Home Builders Association in 1961, with Tony Schaffer as its first president. The association was started to represent the interests of the men in the building trades, and those first involved were Ted Noel Sr., A.G. Betts and C.J. Haley. These well-established contractors formed the organization for several reasons: to work with city and county officials in establishing and enforcing satisfactory contracting and building codes, to work with the Registrar of Contractors to establish enforceable laws relative to the construction industry and contracting by unlicensed contractors; to work towards unity between various trades and contractors; to make every effort to assure high standards in quality in the construction industry; to improve relations between the contracting industry and the general public. One could certainly say that the organization has “come a long way, baby!”
If someone had asked me years ago if I thought I would be executive director of a construction industry organization, I probably would have said, “Are you kidding?” Now we are closing in on 2013 and after eight years as the proud executive director of YCCA, I am still energized and thrilled to continue growing the dreams and promise of our founders from 1961.
Throughout the years, YCCA has remained rock-solid in our representation of the industry and we have continued to ensure protections and support for contractors, citizens and the communities we serve. YCCA is dedicated to furthering best practices in the ever-changing construction industry. The strength of YCCA has proven to be one of our area’s greatest assets and our willingness to embrace and encourage positive change and to give our neighborhoods and areas in so many ways through our members is something that helps bolster our communities.
YCCA works diligently to strengthen the dialogue between our industry, building officials and the citizens because we know that clear communication and cooperative efforts can make great changes happen. YCCA is honored to continue to play a key role in promoting a better, safer, more reliable industry for the citizens: the people who rely heavily on our local professionals to build and shape the wonderful communities of Yavapai County.
Our membership is comprised of people who possess both community pride and generous spirits. Our members are experts who focus on quality, integrity and pride and they support our belief that it is so fulfilling to help people strengthen their overall construction knowledge in order to avoid serious pitfalls.
I am so proud to represent YCCA along with our Board of Directors, who give so unselfishly and expect nothing in return and who are so inspiring. We all look forward to continuing to represent our members, our community and to continue to do the right thing – to be magnanimous and industry responsible for the protection of you, our citizens and our community. As Yavapai County grows, so does the importance of YCCA.
All of us at YCCA know that our work extends far beyond the world of contracting; for us, the ultimate goal is to touch and enhance the lives of all those who share our good fortune in calling Yavapai County “home.”
As our forefathers, the earlier generation from whom the YCCA traditions, values and ideas we have inherited would want, let’s start working together to build our community with keen awareness of all that building involves. I am not referring to building as in “bricks and sticks,” I am referring to building in the sense of passion, caring, talking, understanding, shaping and fostering. Building takes much thought, energy, care and ideas. The investment, however, is worthwhile. A well-built community should serve the citizens for many generations and to actively participate in building helps strengthen and deepen relationships and the community.
YCCA is extremely proud to be a part of this community and work for you. Remember,
“Don’t Start Without Us!” QCBN
