The “weekend warrior” suffering from a sports injury. An individual who’s continuing to regain communication skills after a stroke. An elderly patient who is learning how to walk again after knee surgery.
From the younger to the older, outpatient services can play a key role in the rehabilitation of patients who are recovering from or living with disabilities caused by injuries, illnesses or chronic medical conditions.
Outpatient rehabilitation can be provided to people who have injuries or illnesses that don’t require a hospital stay – like sports injuries, or for people who need continued care after they leave the hospital. These individuals need continued physical, occupational or speech therapy to help them reach their full potential.
Patients who are likely candidates for outpatient rehabilitation services include those recovering from strokes, orthopedic injuries, brain injuries or spinal cord injuries. Individuals with conditions such as cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, or those who live with chronic pain also can benefit from outpatient services.
At Mountain Valley Regional Rehabilitation Hospital, specially trained nurses and therapists work with patients and their family members to create individualized treatment plans to ensure the highest levels of recovery. The staff treats about 600 outpatients annually, and recently added additional personnel to meet a growing need for this service. The hospital now will be able to meet the needs of about 700 outpatients every year.
At the hospital, patients have access to a 9,000-square-foot therapy gym and treatment center, aquatic therapy pool, outdoor therapeutic courtyard and daily living and transitional suites. The suites allow patients to practice daily activities like cooking, doing laundry or cleaning while under the supervision of a health care professional. In addition, the hospital provides a brain injury support group.
We offer our patients the latest in rehabilitative technology and treatment options to enhance their results. Among the offerings is the ZeroG Overground Gait and Balance Training System, which is a robotic-weight support system mounted to a motorized trolley that rides along an overhead track. The system allows patients to practice walking and balance therapy safely and independently.
Our goal is to help patients attain their highest levels of ability and independence so they can achieve quality of life. Outpatient therapy helps patients to do this through continuing their recovery processes while remaining in their homes. QCBN
