Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University-Prescott and BeyondTrust, a Phoenix-based cyber security company dedicated to proactively eliminating data breaches from insider privilege abuse and external hacking attacks, have joined forces to enhance the education and training of future cyber security professionals.
BeyondTrust will provide Embry-Riddle’s College of Security and Intelligence (CSI) with hundreds of hours of videos, covering a wide range of cyber security issues such as firewalls, malware and best practices for securing assets. The videos are designed to train professionals for the CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) credential.
Embry-Riddle’s CSI Cyber Program has experienced significant growth since its inception in 2013. Currently, there are more than 70 students in the program and more than 100 expected next year.
“Due to the large demand in industry and government for trained cyber security workers, we expect the program to continue to grow,” said Cyber Intelligence and Security Professor Dr. Jon Haass. “We are adding faculty with a variety of expertise to provide students with exposure and hands-on work with networks, cyber physical systems, malware analysis and ethical hacking to name a few. The material provided by BeyondTrust will augment our in-person classwork.”
Recognizing Embry-Riddle as one of the first universities to offer a cyber security degree, BeyondTrust hopes to provide internships, thought leadership research and potential employment to Embry-Riddle students.
“Between having feedback from the education sector regarding cyber security and students experiencing the real world of threats through internships and white papers, BeyondTrust, Embry-Riddle, and the cyber security industry will benefit from theory to actual implementation,” said BeyondTrust Vice President of Technology Morey Haber.
Chancellors Alumni Hall of Fame
Embry-Riddle honored several noteworthy alumni at awards receptions held during the Prescott campus homecoming celebration recently. Three alumni were inducted into the Prescott Chancellor’s Alumni Hall of Fame.
The Chancellor’s Alumni Hall of Fame inductees include: William L. Cusick (‘84, PC); Gabriel L. Navarrete (‘88, PC); and Melissa D. Pemberton (‘13, WW/PC). Chancellor Frank Ayers established the Hall of Fame in 2012 to recognize the significant contributions of alumni to their profession, the community, the Prescott Campus and the university as a whole.
Cusick is the vice president for Spares and Customer Support at Zodiac Aerospace, providing equipment and systems for commercial and business aircraft, as well as helicopters and spacecraft. Cusick was a member of Prescott’s inaugural freshman class and is a member of the Prescott Campus Board of Visitors, serving the university since 2013.
Navarrete is the president and CEO of Urban Tactical Group, a global security firm that provides protective security and intelligence services. He brings to his position more than 26 years of global security experience, including over a decade of protective security management. Navarrete supports the campus through gifts, as well as serving as a member of the Prescott Campus Board of Visitors.
Pemberton is an award-winning aerobatic pilot, free flying skydiver and champion rock climber. She brings a high-energy, action-packed display to the U.S. Unlimited Aerobatics Team with her Edge 540 aircraft. She returns to the Prescott Campus regularly to perform at the Wings Out West Air Show during OctoberWest. Pemberton earned the majority of her undergraduate degree credits at the Prescott Campus, but left before graduating to pursue her aerobatic flying career. She ultimately completed her degree at Embry-Riddle’s Worldwide Campus. QCBN
