Lisa Watters Lain and her team are credited with taking her company to new heights as Watters Garden Center made the Independent Garden Centers Top 100 list for the first time in company history. Fifteen thousand garden centers competed to make the top of the prestigious list.
Watters Lain has been working in her family-owned business since she was old enough to hold a garden hose. She is reported to be “the engine that can” who powers the machine started by her parents more than 57 years ago.
Watters Lain has a master’s degree in education, an Arizona Nursery Certificate and a lifetime of nursery experience. “Lisa can identify local plants and what ails them faster than a speeding bullet,” said her husband, Ken Lain. “She balances her roles as owner, general manager, wife, mother, dog lover and fierce community supporter using her superpowers of compassion, sarcasm and a heavy dose of Star Trek knowledge.”
“It seems like Lisa has been working in the garden center since our beginning,” said her father and founder of the company, Harold Watters. “I know it’s not possible because she is nowhere close to 57, but I am so proud of where she has lead the company since her mother and I retired.” QCBN
