Making Life Better

Our March ad theme is “A Clean Home Makes Life Better.” This last year has been so hard on so many of us. It literally has changed lives. Not all the changes are negative, however. Some people actually mention positives that have come out of this dark cloud we have all been experiencing. I go into people’s homes and hear the stories of how things are different. Grandparents miss their grandkids, children miss their friends, and the daily routines have been affected. Many have lost or changed jobs and business owners have suffered in many ways, while other businesses have flourished.

What I have noticed is resilience. As the time seems to pass slowly and even though we are not out of the woods yet, I’ve appreciated and learned from those who have found ways to still live their lives as happily as they can. The resilience is inspiring. Here at Maid to Order, we have had to make adjustments on how we do business, just like so many other industries. Many who have lost jobs have been able to find others, change positions or switch industries. Now, many are finding ways of making life better.

A Pew Research Center poll found that as of June, 22% of American adults had either moved because of the pandemic or knew someone who did. That trend apparently continued into the fall: About 20% more houses sold in November 2020 compared to November 2019, according to U.S. Census Bureau data. The reasons for that trend are likely many. Among them, nearly a year of indoor time seems to have prompted many people to look for homes that offer more space, and those who can work from home suddenly have more freedom to move beyond the commuting distance of an office.

Reevaluation is a common reaction to sudden, strange stillness like that brought on by the pandemic, says Dr. Elinore McCance-Katz, who leads the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. “It gives people a lot of time to review their lives and think about what life could look like moving forward,” she said. “For many people, that’s not a bad thing, for them to really spend time taking an inventory of what their life is like currently and what they want it to be like.”

As we come out of the cold winter and look forward to the newness of spring, we can look forward to doing the things that make life better and put a higher priority on what is important, like family, friends, home, health. Get help with things that you need or want help with and do the things you enjoy. We are here to help make that happen. QCBN
