Balancing the roles and responsibilities of marriage, motherhood and business has been overwhelming.
I have loved sharing with fellow moms, friends and mentors to gain insight on all of the roles. I definitely can’t say I am someone who has it all figured out. I share and receive encouragement with my friends, community and clients about life’s joys and challenges. My journey has been to gain as much knowledge as possible to balance wellness and balance in my life.
Mother’s Day is the perfect time of year to share the gift of an herb garden for that special “mama” in your life. Spring is in the air and soon we will be transitioning into summer. An herb garden is a delicious and gorgeous way to present the special gift.
I would suggest choosing a theme for the herbs you would like put together. Might I suggest a trip to the local Watters Garden Center on Iron Springs Road? There is an amazing variety of culinary herbs ready to take home as starter plants. You will also find the perfect pots and soil to complete the project. Choose pots with drainage holes on the bottom to release any excess water.
Let’s say today we pick an Italian Theme:
Basil
Oregano
Italian Parsley
Cherry Tomatoes
Now, it’s time to get your hands dirty. Fill the planter about a third of the way with soil. Doing so will provide a good base for the herbs to take root when they are planted.
Break up the roots a bit on the starter plants to help them grow out and to anchor them well in the planter. Evenly position the plants in the planter, ensuring they are uniformly spaced.
Fill in between and across the top of the herbs’ roots with additional soil. Now, soak the soil with water to help them begin to grow. This will start in approximately four weeks.
Might I suggest you attach an inspirational recipe card? Pesto would be a great example.
Every day is Mother’s Day; however, May 9 is dedicated to all moms.
Moms need to take care of themselves, or the whole family suffers. When moms get stressed or sick, the family routine can be thrown into chaos. QCBN
