Today, I am reminded to open my heart and let in the light. We have been hit with information by the government and news media that could be rather daunting.
I have learned from a few mentors and professionals that we must take our own health and environments into our own hands. Of course, we need air, water, food, shelter and love to make it through the day.
During these uncertain times, our community is doing so much to live differently. We are encouraged to stay home as much as possible. Daily walks in nature are so rewarding. We need 15 minutes a day minimally to stretch, walk and open up our systems. We are encouraged to shop locally and purchase food/groceries to ensure we have basic ingredients in our homes for several days.
Let us talk about food
We are encouraged to eat and drink warm foods, such as soups, stews, chilis, broths and teas that include warming spices and culinary herbs. These would include, garlic, cinnamon, ginger, cayenne, horseradish, turmeric and black pepper. They especially promote a healthy warming glow throughout the body. Drinking warm or hot lemon water is also a great way to keep our insides warm.
Preparing and cooking together can also be a fun activity for families. It keeps everyone engaged.
We also are encouraged to minimize cold foods and beverages. Ice cream and sodas are to be avoided for a brief time.
Minimizing dairy is advised, as dairy products form mucus.
This is a perfect time to plant a kitchen herb garden. Bring the family together or simply practice self-care. Pick up some herb seeds and perhaps your favorite vegetables and flowers. Watters Garden Center has a great variety and wonderful soil. On average, it takes two to four weeks for seeds to germinate. After germination, you can transplant to pots to remain close to the sunlight at the kitchen window and to your outdoor garden.
