A car accident on Willow Creek Road early Tuesday morning has claimed the life of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University student Khrystyna Gavryushenko.
Originally from Oxnard, Calif., Khrystyna was 19 years old and entering her sophomore year at Embry-Riddle, majoring in Aviation Business Administration. Additionally, Khrystyna was president of the Golden Eagles Archery Club and a member of the Air Line Pilots Association’s Aviation Collegiate Education Club.
“Khrystyna was a bright student and a very popular young lady on campus,” said Dean of Students Larry Stephan. “Her tragic accident is a tremendous loss to our students and our faculty and staff who knew and respected Khrystyna. Our deepest sympathy goes out to her family and friends.”
Counseling was made available to all members of the campus community at the Haas Chapel. Dozens of students and staff stopped by to speak with grief counselors.
“The entire Embry-Riddle family is mourning the loss of Khrystyna,” said Chancellor Dr. Frank Ayers. “She was a bright light on our campus and an outstanding student, friend and colleague. She will be remembered by all of us for how much she participated in student life, in her classes and how she lived her life. We will miss her, and our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends.”
Embry-Riddle is in the process of planning an on-campus memorial service.
