If you ask me why Mountain Valley Regional Rehabilitation Hospital supports The Salvation Army and other local organizations, the answer is simple. The organization wants to be a good neighbor.
The hospital is part of the community. Our staff is part of the community. We live here and are raising our families here, so we want to contribute to the quality of life that the area offers. To do that from an organizational standpoint, we believe strongly that we have to be a responsible corporate citizen and do our part to help meet the needs of the community. Obviously, we do this by providing Prescott Valley and surrounding areas with high quality rehabilitative care. But, beyond that, we’re committed to supporting other organizations that specialize in providing services that are different from ours that are designed to help improve the community as well.
One of these organizations is The Salvation Army. Mountain Valley Regional Rehabilitation Hospital has supported The Salvation Army for the past 11 years. It’s part of a tradition that was started by Ernest Health, the hospital’s parent organization. Ernest Health was named after the grandfather of one of the health care organization’s original founders, Ernest Thomson, who was a Captain in The Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army helps members of our community in times of need and often during crises, like the Goodwin fire. So, our staff is glad to serve as board members, bell ringers and fundraising volunteers. The hospital encourages our employees to participate in opportunities like this that allow them to individually contribute to the community and a great cause.
An upcoming event that the hospital’s staff currently is involved with is The Salvation Army’s Kidz to Camp Golf Tournament. The golf tournament will raise money for the camp that provides children from low-income or disadvantaged families the opportunity to attend week-long summer camps for free.
Without the support of The Salvation Army, these children wouldn’t be able to attend a summer camp. By collectively working together, we can help The Salvation Army get the resources they need to provide these children with a safe place to have new experiences, learn new skills and interact with peers. Our support of their efforts – and other organizations that we support locally – can lead to better things for many members of our community. We’re grateful to be a part of it. QCBN
