Geoff Sweeney and Dave Koch of Pinnacle Capital Mortgage offered a generous donation to assist a friend’s mission.
“We couldn’t be more excited!” said Paula Bishop, sister to paraplegic father and business owner, Paul Schaffer. “With these donations, we will be able to provide Paul with a 4 x 4 custom-built wheelchair. It’s important for Paul to move forward with his life and he can get back to his day-to-day activities.”
Paul Schaffer is the owner of Arbor Scapes and a devout family man born and raised in Skull Valley. He had a terrible accident in 2013 that left him a paraplegic and wheelchair-bound for life. Schaffer runs a landscaping business and has five children between the ages of eight months to 11 years old. Nearly a year after the accident, immobility is just something he lives with. His humility would never allow him to ask for assistance for a better transportation vehicle.
This past November, Paula Bishop decided to take matters into her own hands after witnessing her brother’s quiet struggle. Bishop rallied friends and family together to raise proceeds to purchase Schaffer a new, 4×4, custom wheelchair made of recycled parts that would allow him to assist his clients better and provide for his young family.
Geoff Sweeney and Dave Koch, loan officers from Pinnacle Capital Mortgage of Prescott, received one of Bishop’s letters and decided to take their mission further. Not only did they request a donation of $500 from their Community Cares, Pay it Forward non-profit organization, they decided to share the story with the community through press, word of mouth and social media.
“If you knew Paul, you can’t imagine how this man does what he does in a day. He is a business owner, father of five children and sole provider to his family. With all of this, he will never speak of his disability as a hindrance. Paul’s spirit and kind heart is why we have all gathered to make his life a little easier.” Geoff Sweeney said.
Bishop is close to raising enough funds for the custom wheelchair, which is priced around $6,300. However, additional funds are needed for a specific vehicle to transport the chair and special hand controls are required so that Schaffer can commute like everyone else.
