“Every May 15, we pay tribute to the brave men and women who have laid down their lives in service to our communities and our country. Whether walking a beat, protecting our borders, patrolling our neighborhoods or overseeing correctional inmates, our nation’s peace officers perform extraordinary and selfless acts to keep us safe.
“We salute our brothers and sisters of the badge who made the ultimate sacrifice in their noble mission. As we honor the fallen, let us also remember their families and loved ones left behind, as well as all Arizonans and Americans who devote and risk their lives to protect and serve us. Because we can never repay them our debt, we must forever give them our gratitude and respect.
“In recognition of the peace officers who gave their last full measure of devotion while answering the call to duty – and in coordination with National Peace Officers Memorial Day – I have ordered that State flags be lowered to half-staff from sunrise until sunset on Thursday, May 15, 2014. I encourage all Arizonans to join in this tribute.”
