This is just one example of what having patience with an animal can do to change its life.
I regularly ask our team members to share a story with me about an animal they have cared for and loved, so I can share it with you, our fellow animal lovers. John Wilson, one of our Adoption Leads, submitted this story about sweet Lilith, a cat who came to Yavapai Humane Society in April 2023 as a stray.
He shares: “Upon her arrival, our staff quickly noticed Lilith was pregnant and soon afterwards, she gave birth to six beautiful kittens. Our staff noted Lilith was one of the best mother cats they’d ever seen. She was very attentive towards her kittens, feeding and cleaning them around the clock. She hardly ever left their side, unless it was to eat herself, and even then, it was when they were asleep. Once the kittens were old enough, and were adopted, Lilith became depressed and started shutting down towards everyone. It took the team quite a while to earn Lilith’s trust again. It took a lot of love and patience, and Lilith eventually came around but still remained very cautious of new people. Our Cat Staff worked diligently with her throughout the next several weeks to get her socialized enough for adoption.
Lilith only had a few people look at her, but none that were willing to take on the challenge of a shy, timid cat. Unfortunately, Lilith ended up spending a total of 214 days at YHS before someone was willing to give her a chance. In November 2023, a woman by the name of Tehilla came in to look at cats and spotted Lilith in her kennel. Upon meeting her, Tehilla immediately noticed that Lilith would require a special adopter, and we are happy to say that Tehilla was just that person!
It took Lilith several days to settle in her new home. Tehilla has another cat, a young male, who was very curious of his new house mate. Tehilla said Lilith wasn’t so sure at first either and in the beginning, she would hiss and bat the other cat away whenever he approached her. Now, Tehilla says the two are doing great together, even stating that Lilith treats her other cat like her “son.”
All of us here are so happy Lilith has found her forever home with Tehilla!”
This is just one example of what having patience with an animal can do to change its life. It’s one example of many of an animal that came through our doors, and into our lives, and found a home sweet home of their very own. It’s just one example of what your support of Yavapai Humane Society does for these animals and our community. Every one of us at Yavapai Humane Society thanks you for what you do for us so we can continue our mission: To promote and protect the health, safety and welfare of companion animals. And, allowing us to work daily towards our vision of ensuring every companion animal in our community has a great home and is cared for all its life. QCBN
