When the Town of Prescott Valley put up its annual Healing Field display of 3,000 American flags last year to remember those who died in the 9-11 attacks, it added 19 additional, and heartbreakingly close to home, banners.
Those flags honored the 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots who tragically died in the Yarnell Hill Fire on June 30, 2013. Four of the 19 men – Scott Norris, Anthony Rose, Jesse Steed, and Joe Thurston – were from Prescott Valley.
On Saturday, June 28, the Town will install a display of the 19 flags, along with American flags, in front of the Civic Center. The display, which will be lit at night, will be taken down on July 1.
The public is invited to visit, reflect and pay their respects to the 19 men who gave their lives protecting others’ lives and property.
