Human design assumes that each person desires a life with deeper meaning – a cause.
Comparatively, the business blueprint suggests actions that create profit.
There is a new way of doing business emerging that is not only transcending what business can be, but also providing a community for the customer that was not previously available. This is called “Conscious Capitalism.” It is business, with a social mission – a mission to create a profitable business while making a positive impact on the world.
The old way of doing business involves making profit, no matter the cost or no matter the expense of the people involved. The old way of doing business can be viewed as “greedy,” “coldhearted,” and can even leave the customer with the feeling that “the corporation is against us.”
There is a sense of familiarity with businesses that claim to donate portions of profit to active
causes, when you contribute to their business. The truth is, those businesses wouldn’t give without you.
Conscious Capitalism looks and feels completely different. Company founders choose a direction that means something to them or their company. They create an ecosystem that makes a real difference to people, while knowing that profit will follow the social impact.
For example, in the world of real estate, the corporate way of doing business could have the owners making a profit at the expense of the tenants, despite the renters’ living conditions, quality of community or overall experience. This may leave tenants with the feeling of the “little guys versus the big guys,” which may result in management problems, property damage and failure to pay rent.
The conscious capitalism business perspective has the owner shifting from “making a living” to
“making a difference,” and in doing so, focusing on the community and the tenant, such that the focus is on the positive experience of those living at the property. The outcome may result in a
long-term renter, with less turnover. In addition, the residents may share a great amount of pride in their community, which can even reduce the need for repairs. In the end, this new perspective has a greater chance for creating happy tenants and success for the business.
It all begins at the top. When leaders focus on being more authentic, while making a social impact, the business will succeed because consumers will be clear of the company’s mission. By doing business with that company, the customers are pledging their approval for the company’s expedition. It’s something they can and will stand behind. The community will form and flourish, creating a loyal culture, full of like-minded people. So again, social good first and profit second will create abundance for all. QCBN
