What started as a modest “Parade of Homes” in the mid-1970s has evolved into one of the biggest Home and Garden Shows in Central and Northern Arizona. The YCCA (Yavapai County Contractors Association) Home and Garden Show is scheduled Friday through Sunday, May 18-20 at the Prescott Valley Event Center.
The event is marking its 40th year on Saturday, May 18. Sandy Griffis, 11-year veteran executive director of the YCCA, says the Prescott Costco Wholesale will be providing the anniversary cake.
“We’ll also be debuting our colorful 2018 Building Yavapai magazine, which is filled with valuable information about all the products and services that are available throughout our exceptional county,” said Griffis.
Free to the public, it is open Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Griffis said 200 vendors have signed up to showcase their products. “The show will have everything you can imagine for your household and garden.
The wide variety of exhibits will range from basic building materials to sophisticated and technological innovations that can be installed in homes and yards. In addition, decorating, remodeling, painting, housekeeping, cleaning supplies and products will be on view. Vendors will be representing tree-trimming and yard maintenance firms, local nursery representatives, spa exhibits and equipment dealers.
Several vendors will be outside the Events Center with larger exhibits.
Exhibitors will have professionals available to offer advice, Griffis said.
She expects this year’s event to be one of the biggest and best the YCCA has ever sponsored. Last year, more than 18,000 attended.
The mission of the YCCA is to manage a construction industry association that transfers and promotes its education, safety political action and networking for the benefit of its members and the greater community in Yavapai County.
YCCA board member Chris Welborn from Vicente Landscaping said he believes the show is an integral part of reaching out to the general public – home dwellers – to make them aware of the resources available to them.
Another board member, Ty Scott, owner of Builder’s Wholesale, is equally enthusiastic about not only the home and garden show but also the other services the YCCA provides citizens. He urges to take advantage of the licensed and bonded contractors that make up the more than 350 members of YCCA.
Scotts said a major reason for YCCA is to protect and serve the public, and the home show is just one way to do it.
