CEM combines a standard digital mammogram with specially developed software.
We all know that early detection is key, especially when it comes to breast cancer, and CEM consistently has been shown to detect cancer that may not be visible on a standard mammogram. In addition to detecting cancer more efficiently, CEM can reduce the need for additional follow-up testing, which saves time and reduces anxiety for our patients.
WHo wIll CEM Benefit?
Women at high risk for breast cancer are among those who benefit from CEM. That may include women with:
- A family history of breast cancer
- Certain genetic mutations
- Past abnormal breast biopsies
- Dense breast tissue
- CEM is also used to detect any additional cancer in women who have already been diagnosed with breast cancer.
How Does CEM Work?
CEM combines a standard digital mammogram with specially developed software. During CEM, the patient receives an iodinated contrast agent through an IV. This contrast agent makes it easier for radiologists to find new, developing cancers. A CEM study takes approximately 15 minutes to complete.
