A New Era at Dignity Health Yavapai Regional Medical Center: What That Means to You and Our Community

December 4, 2023 By quadcities Leave a Comment

We appreciate your continued trust in Dignity Health Yavapai Regional Medical Center as we move forward in this exciting New Era in health care.

We don’t use a term like “New Era” lightly. For us, it reflects our total commitment to utilizing – and in some cases, pioneering – the latest in innovative medical technology in order to bring continual improvement in care for our patients. Yet, as always – and most importantly – all of our services are delivered by the finest, most professional people anywhere. Here are a few highlights:

Virtually Integrated Care (VIC)

VIC connects a remote, professional registered nurse to each patient and their bedside Care Team via high-def camera, video screen, and two-way audio. Patients and their families are able to access a VIC nurse via a tap of the screen in the patient’s room. They can ask questions, make requests, communicate concerns – all of which enhances their experience while improving hospital efficiency.

ERAdvisor and CareAdvisor

People arriving at our Emergency Rooms are offered an advanced AI-powered technology called ERAdvisor. Those who opt in receive a link on their smartphone, giving them instant and complete information about their ER visit, including real-time updates on their wait time. A similar AI powered smartphone technology for our in-patients, called CareAdvisor, is available in both hospitals.

Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery

Minimally invasive intracranial (skull) and neurosurgery of the spine are now performed using a state-of-the-art intraoperative 2D/3D imaging system, providing enhanced 3D visibility and surgical feedback. This powerful technology is getting people back to their lives faster than ever before.

Next Generation Heart Care at the James Family Heart Center

The James Family Heart Center at Dignity Health Yavapai Regional brings Central and Northern Arizona unparalleled access to leading-edge diagnostics, as well as the latest groundbreaking heart-healing procedures. All of this is delivered by world-class cardiac specialists, outstanding nurses and top technologists, in our state-of-the-art Cardiac Cath Labs and Hybrid Operating Room.

The Baskin Breast Care Center

Right here in Prescott Valley, you’ll find the world-class Baskin Breast Care Center. Earning the distinguished “Breast Imaging Center of Excellence” accreditation from the American College of Radiology signifies that the Baskin Breast Care Center stands at the pinnacle of imaging excellence.

Yavapai Regional Medical Group

We continue to welcome exceptional board-certified physicians and highly credentialed advanced clinical practitioners to our practices and clinics. And, because Yavapai Regional Medical Group is part of the Dignity Health YRMC network, there’s seamless access to a range of advanced treatments and diagnostics.

Looking back, we’ve been serving Yavapai County for 80 years, and there’s so much to be proud of. Yet, in many ways, we feel like we’re just getting started. We appreciate your continued trust in Dignity Health Yavapai Regional Medical Center as we move forward in this exciting New Era in health care. QCBN

YRMC Advocates for Patients through Innovative PBM Program

October 27, 2023 By quadcities Leave a Comment

It makes me proud to say that YRMC’s efforts surrounding PBM have elevated our organization as a national and global leader in this field.

Dignity Health Yavapai Regional Medical Center (YRMC) offers exceptional health care programs and outstanding clinical services that impress me both as a physician and the organization’s CEO.

Our Patient Blood Management (PBM) program is an excellent example. This program stands out to me for its clinical achievements and because it demonstrates YRMC’s willingness to lead and innovate.

Yavapai Regional is home to Arizona’s only PBM program that is recognized by the Society for the Advancement of Patient Blood Management (SABM). In the United States, approximately 90 hospitals/health systems have earned SABM recognition. It makes me proud to say that YRMC’s efforts surrounding PBM have elevated our organization as a national and global leader in this field.

To truly appreciate this achievement, it’s important to understand PBM and how it can improve patient outcomes. Simply put, PBM aims to support and optimize blood health. This begins before patients are hospitalized for surgery by customizing therapies – nutrition, vitamins, medication management and more – that prevent or treat anemia. It continues with strategies that detect and treat anemia, minimize the risk for blood loss, and improve overall health in our surgical suites, on the patient care units, and even after the patient leaves the hospital.

What are the results? While blood replacement remains a vital life-saving procedure in our hospital, and within health care in general, growing evidence shows that PBM reduces complications, shortens hospital stays and results in better long-term outcomes.

YRMC’s PBM program was launched in 2012 thanks to forward-thinking leadership and PBM champions, especially Pierre Tibi, M.D., FACS. Dr. Tibi is an internationally known cardiothoracic surgeon and a leading authority on PBM. He serves as the medical director of the James Family Heart Center at Dignity Health Yavapai Regional and YRMC’s PBM program.

Dr. Tibi’s advocacy has placed Yavapai Regional in the center of a worldwide effort to achieve better patient outcomes through PBM.

Nov. 6-10 s Patient Blood Management Awareness Week, a good time to learn about PBM. I encourage you to explore these local and global resources for more information:

Thanking the Business Community During Breast Cancer Awareness Month

September 28, 2023 By quadcities Leave a Comment

In 2022, these organizations raised nearly $220,000 to support the Baskin Breast Care Center.

Each October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month brings together our business community in a way that’s both gratifying and humbling to me.

Quad Cities businesses of all kinds – a custom car builder, dance and fitness studio, propane supplier and restaurants, to name just a few – host a variety of unique events that share a common goal. They are all dedicated to helping family members, friends, neighbors and co-workers who are facing breast cancer by supporting the Baskin Breast Care Center at Dignity Health Yavapai Regional Medical Center (YRMC).

In 2022, these organizations raised nearly $220,000 to support the Baskin Breast Care Center. Those funds support breast health education in the community, help ensure the center’s clinical team has the latest technology, and provide professional staff education.

Gifts from the business community also assist financially vulnerable families during breast cancer treatment. They believe, as we do, that no one should have to choose between purchasing life-saving medication and buying groceries for their family. These donations provide breast cancer patients essential support – medication, grocery vouchers, transportation to treatment and more.

Additionally, these businesses have engaged other local companies and individuals by seeking sponsorships for their philanthropic activities and recruiting volunteers to give their time. They have done more to create a network of caring around the Baskin Breast Care Center than our organization could have done on its own.

Our Baskin Breast Care Center team is inspired by the support they receive from area businesses, organizations and individuals. In fact, I hope you are proud to learn that the Baskin Breast Care Center is Northern Arizona’s only Breast Imaging Center of Excellence. This accreditation, which comes from the prestigious American College of Radiology, signifies that the Baskin Breast Care Center has achieved the highest practice standards possible. That’s quite an impressive accomplishment.

I will end this column as I began it, by expressing my sincerest gratitude to all of the businesses as well as non-profit organizations, community-service agencies and individuals for their support of the Baskin Breast Care Center in October and year-round. Your engagement and dedication enable our team to offer exceptional care in our community and throughout Northern Arizona. QCBN

August 16, 2022 By quadcities Leave a Comment

The new clinic will feature contemporary, state of-the-art advanced interactive technology equal to any place in the country.

The new clinic will feature contemporary, state of-the-art advanced interactive technology equal to any place in the country. An $8 million, 10,000-square-foot family and specialty medical clinic is under construction at the intersection of Highway 69 and Lee Boulevard on the eastern edge of Prescott.

After several years of negotiation, property owner Jim Lee joined officials from Dignity Health, Yavapai Regional Medical Center in early June to celebrate the groundbreaking for the long-awaited facility.

Jim and Linda Lee, long known as generous resident philanthropists for the greater community, said, “The new clinic will feature contemporary, state of-the-art advanced interactive technology equal to any place in the country. Patient records will be accessible to expert medical practitioners across the nation, and it goes both ways.”

Initially, staff will include two primary care provider and two advanced clinical practitioners. Other specialists will be available on an as-needed basis. John Amos, retiring president and CEO of Dignity Health, YRMC and his successor, Anthony Torres, M.D., who had been chief medical officer, praised the new clinic as a tremendous addition to the health care system for the region.

Designed by Archsol and to be built by Venn Construction (both Scottsdale-based firms), the clinic is expected to accept patients in 2023. QCBN

Anthony Torres, M.D., Named President, CEO of Dignity Health, YRMC

July 28, 2022 By quadcities Leave a Comment

Look for Dr. Torres to continue to build community and physician partnerships and continue important integration work with Dignity Health.

Dignity Health has announced that Anthony Torres, M.D., will serve as the next president and chief executive officer of Yavapai Regional Medical Center (YRMC). Dr. Torres has nearly 40 years of healthcare experience, and his leadership skills, medical expertise and dedication to the community are an excellent fit for leading YRMC into the future.

“Dr. Torres was selected for the role after an in-depth process that involved the Yavapai Regional Medical Center Board, executive leadership and medical staff,” said Tim Bricker, interim president, Dignity Health, Southwest Division. “His institutional knowledge, clinical experience, and strong reputation will be great assets in helping YRMC to grow services to meet the needs of an expanding population, as well as to enhance access to care in an increasing competitive healthcare environment. Look for Dr. Torres to continue to build community and physician partnerships and continue important integration work with Dignity Health.”

Torres has been a member of the YRMC team for 13 years, and has served as the hospital’s chief medical officer (CMO) since 2016. As CMO, Torres has provided leadership for the highly effective Medical Executive Committee. In addition, Torres has championed several quality programs to support patient care, and he has been instrumental in the ongoing development of the James Family Heart Center.

Prior to becoming CMO, Torres was the medical director for Yavapai Regional Medical Group (YRMG). In this role, he was a catalyst for growth across the organization and helped develop neurosurgical, palliative medicine and behavioral health programs.

Torres is an internal medicine physician by training, having completed his medical degree at the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara in Guadalajara, Mexico, followed by internship and residency training at the Hunter S.P.O.R.T.S. Medical Center at Fairview Heights, Illinois. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Northland Cares in Prescott.

Torres assumed his new leadership duties on July 11. John Amos, who announced his retirement in March, will continue to provide advisory and transition support through Friday, Sept. 30. QCBN
