Quad Cities Welcomes Its Only Orthopaedic Upper Extremity Specialist and a New Foot and Ankle Surgery Specialist
Lee Richardson, M.D., is joining Granite Orthopaedics and – at the same time – becomes the only Orthopaedic Surgeon based in the Quad Cities who specializes in treating disorders and injuries of the upper extremity and hand.
“Injuries to the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand are very complex and, unfortunately, very common,” said Dr. Richardson. “My approach to patient care is to begin with a correct diagnosis and then to develop an individualized treatment plan.”
A fellowship focusing on diagnosing and treating hand and upper extremity conditions has prepared Dr. Richardson to care for people with a wide variety of conditions, including carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome (a condition that affects the ulnar nerve), cysts, tennis elbow, trauma and more.
After earning an undergraduate degree in Kinesiology – the scientific study of human movement – Dr. Richardson attended medical school at The Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus. He then completed a residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, after which he pursued the fellowship at the University of Rochester Medical Center in New York.
Evan Simonson, DPM, also is joining the Granite Orthopaedics team. Dr. Simonson is a Foot and Ankle Surgeon who graduated from Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in North Chicago. He completed a residency in Foot and Ankle Surgery at Wheaton Franciscan-St. Joseph Hospital in Milwaukee.
“Preventing foot disorders as well as early diagnosis and treatment of illnesses and injuries is very important to overall health,” said Dr. Simonson. “Additionally, many serious health problems – arthritis, diabetes, heart disease and kidney disease – are often first detected through symptoms manifested in the lower extremities.” QCBN
