Former Prescott resident Billie Orr, a longtime popular community leader, died Jan. 7, at her Scottsdale home. Orr was 75. Just two years ago, Orr was a nominee for the prestigious ATHENA Award sponsored by Quad Cities Business News and Prescott Woman Magazine. Orr and her husband, Bob, moved from Prescott to Scottsdale in 2021 because of health issues. City Manager Michael Lamar recalls Orr from the terms she served on the Prescott City Council. Considering the Airport, Revitalization, Open Space and More
Winston Churchill once said, “Continuous effort, not strength or intelligence, is the key to unlocking our potential.” Certainly, that describes Prescott’s evolution from a small mining town on the frontier of our country in the 1860s to the award-winning 21st century community we are today. As my term as your mayor comes to an end, I would like to reflect on what we, as a community, have accomplished during the past four years that I’ve had the privilege to serve as your mayor. Together, we … [Read more...] about Considering the Airport, Revitalization, Open Space and More
Promoting Awareness for the Pink Patch Project
Each October, the color pink is front and center to raise awareness for the second leading cause of cancer deaths among women: breast cancer. Beginning in 1985, Breast Cancer Awareness Month became a time to educate women about breast cancer and early detection. Through the years, a number of campaigns have been designed and promoted in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, allowing survivors and those fighting cancer to share their stories and raise awareness. One of these is the Pink … [Read more...] about Promoting Awareness for the Pink Patch Project
Welcoming a New Season with Events
One of the best parts of 2021 has been the return of so many of our great special events here in Prescott. As we’ve begun to return to a sense of normalcy and venturing out to enjoy local restaurants and shops, we’ve also started seeing many more friendly faces at events in the community. Children are back in school and the days are beginning to feel a bit crisper each morning, which means that we’ll be welcoming changing leaves and fall soon enough as well. With the changing of the seasons, … [Read more...] about Welcoming a New Season with Events
School Bells Will be Ringing and Resources are All Around
The 2020-2021 school year presented a great many obstacles for administrators, teachers, students and families. As with most everything we all experienced over the last year, school looked quite different than any other time. But, as is always the case here in our beautiful community, everyone rose above the challenges to give our children the best in difficult times. I would like to personally extend a heartfelt thank you to Prescott’s teachers, administrators, staff, parents and students for … [Read more...] about School Bells Will be Ringing and Resources are All Around
Celebrating July Fourth in Patriotic Prescott
Summer events during 2020 were put on hiatus, and the COVID-19 pandemic made the usually bustling city of Prescott quiet while residents and visitors attempted to slow the spread and minimized participation in special events. It has brought a smile to many faces over the last few months to see people safely gathering for events and getting ready for a summer of fun to be shared with friends and family. Each year, at the start of July, we take time to reflect and celebrate the freedoms we are all … [Read more...] about Celebrating July Fourth in Patriotic Prescott
Welcoming Summer with Open Doors in ‘Everyone’s Hometown’

Celebrating Prescott’s New Airport Terminal
It was accurately called “the newest airport terminal in the world,” at least for one day. The $15 million Prescott Regional Airport Terminal (PRC) opened on March 30, with a formal ribbon-cutting commemorating the opening at 3 p.m. on March 31. The 18,000-square-foot modern building replaces the Ernest A. Love Terminal, which was built 73 years ago. More than 70 invited guests attended the ceremony where Kristi Miller, airport management analyst, introduced several city and community … [Read more...] about Celebrating Prescott’s New Airport Terminal
